Why This Matters

Mission: Every year millions of kritters are hit on our roadways and thousands of people are injured. Kritter Gitter's mission is to make roads safer for animals and drivers by helping report, respond and respectfully remove & help animals hit on our roads — while giving back to organizations and communities that protect our wildlife, pets and public safety.

"Every animal moved safely off the road removes the hazard, preserves the ecosystem and dignity for the kritters that didn't make it. And we can all be better humans to take care and be aware of the kritters when driving. They live here too."

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Kritter Gitter.

Yes — Kritter Gitter is free to download and use.
When reporting a sighting, the reporter can optionally select a tip and a tip amount, including a custom amount so long as it is $10 or more. Your credit card (Apple Pay supported) will be charged only when the animal is successfully moved via GPS confirmation of the mover. The tip is known as Kritter Kash and the mover can choose to donate to a charity or deposit directly. We encourage charitable donations.
When a mover taps "Mark as Moved," the app captures their GPS coordinates in real time and compares them to the sighting location. If the mover is within an acceptable radius of the original pin (2,000 feet), the removal is confirmed. This helps prevent false completions yet still an honor system.
Safety is always first. We strongly recommend wearing gloves, using a stick or shovel, and never stopping on a high-speed road without warning others. Within the mobile app Settings you will find Kritter Safety for detailed information. Never put yourself in danger — it is ok to decline and you always have the option to select "I can no longer move this." We are working on Kritter Gear options to provide a removal package with a bucket, gloves, etc. Stay tuned.
Absolutely. Tips are 100% optional. You can report a sighting with no tip at all — the pin goes on the community map and nearby users are still notified. Many movers help purely because they want to, and that's perfectly fine.
If a sighting isn't resolved, it stays visible on the map for other nearby users to see and act on. Reporters and nearby users receive notifications. We're building additional escalation tools (repeated alerts, urgent flagging) for sightings that go unresolved for an extended period.
In the app, go to Billing & Payout and complete the Stripe Express setup — it takes about 2 minutes. Once connected, tips are automatically deposited to your bank account within 1–2 business days after each confirmed removal. You can also choose to donate any or all tips to a local wildlife charity instead.
Yes. Kritter Gitter supports a wide range of animal types including deer, raccoon, squirrel, opossum, rabbit, fox, duck, turtle, snake, dog, cat, bird, and more. If you spot a species not listed, you can select "Other." We also enable the ability to select a kritter as a protected species — those kritters are tagged in yellow and noted in the sighting details. We're continuously expanding the list based on updates from the Endangered Species Act (ESA) list at ecos.fws.gov.
Photos are optional at the time of reporting — they help others identify what they're looking for and confirm the animal's location. When marking a sighting as moved, movers can take a confirmation photo, however confirmation is based on GPS verification at the time of move at this time. All photos are blurred by default.
Kritter Gitter is currently available on iOS (iPhone, iOS 16+). An Android version is in development and coming soon. Sign up for email updates at support@krittergitter.net to be notified when the Android version launches.
Please contact your local animal control or veterinarian. We are working on additional partnerships to help address. You can always call 911 when needed.
Kritter Gitter has set up local charities based on states along with selected national animal and wildlife agencies. You set the default in Billing & Payout for Donate to Charity, select your charity and save. Currently one charity at a time can be selected at your time of move. You can always change in Settings. Charities are paid out quarterly.
You can use the in-app support form under your profile settings. Or email us at support@krittergitter.net with the subject "Account Deletion" or "Data Request" and we'll handle it promptly — typically within 5 business days.

About Kritter Gitter

It is our community responsibility — not someone else's problem.

I co-founded Kritter Gitter with my daughters because I saw the problem we have with kritters and road safety. I call it a 'giving back app' that really started idea wise growing up in Nebraska and moving kritters that had been hit with sticks because it just seemed like the right thing to do. And today it still is.

We can make a difference by using modern technology like Kritter Gitter to make it easy to report, notify and move kritters to make for a safer community while also reducing the incidence of the millions of kritters that are hit and thousands of people that are injured. The combination of awareness, data, donation and action can absolutely have that impact.

We are the change we were looking for.
